Why Digital Locks for Landlords?

With a key lock, every new tenant means a locksmith or a set of keys that may have been copied. With a digital lock, you delete the old tenant's access and set new codes in minutes.

Start simple

A rental lock is used by your tenant, not by you, so most landlords do not need a high-end smart lock.

Want to reset access from your phone?

If you would rather manage tenants remotely, choose an app lock:

  • Aqara A100: a mortise lock with one-time and periodic PINs.
  • Aqara U100: a compact deadbolt-style lock with one-time and periodic PINs.
  • Mercury X5: a mortise lock with periodic PINs, plus face and palm vein unlock for tenants.

App features on any brand need a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network in the unit, so check whose Wi-Fi account the lock will use. Aqara locks connect through an Aqara hub.

Reset between tenants

When a tenant moves out, delete their PINs, cards and fingerprints and register the new tenant's. On an app lock you can do this from your phone. On an offline lock, you do it at the lock itself.

Viewings, agents and repairs

Give an agent a periodic PIN that only works during viewing hours. On Aqara locks, you can also send a contractor a one-time PIN that stops working after one use.

Renting out rooms instead?

For a room rental, each bedroom needs its own lock. See our bedroom digital door locks.

Free fit check

Send photos of the unit's door on WhatsApp and we will recommend the most affordable lock that fits. Installation is free, by our own team.

FAQ for Digital Locks for Landlords

Q1. How do I reset a digital lock between tenants?

Delete the old tenant's PINs, cards and fingerprints, then register the new tenant's. On an app lock such as the Aqara A100, Aqara U100 or Mercury X5, you can do it from your phone. On an offline lock, you do it at the lock. There is no need to change the lock.

Q2. Can I let an agent in for viewings without being there?

Yes, with an app lock. Give the agent a periodic PIN that only works during viewing hours on the Mercury X5 or Aqara locks, or a one-time PIN on the Aqara A100 or U100.

Q3. Which lock should I get if the door already has a mortise lock?

A mortise lock, such as the Mercury X2 or Gateman SP122. A rim lock cannot cover the hole left by an old mortise lock, so only a mortise lock can replace one.

Q4. Is a lock with no app a good choice for a rental?

Often, yes. Rim locks like the Solity Welkom WR-303B and Gateman G-Touch, and mortise locks like the Mercury X2, need no app, Wi-Fi or account. You manage PINs and cards at the lock itself.

Q5. I rent out rooms, not the whole unit. Which lock should I get?

For room rentals, each bedroom needs its own lock. See our bedroom digital door locks collection.
