Why Condo Digital Locks?

Condo doors differ from HDB doors in one way that matters for a digital lock: the handlebar. Many condo main doors have a fixed handlebar on the inside, a short distance from the door edge. A lock whose inside panel or lever sits in that space will clash with it.

Which lock styles clear a handlebar

  • Mortise lock with a fixed, integrated handle: usually fits, as long as there is enough space between the door edge and the handlebar. The Mercury, Samsung Zigbang, Aqara D-series and Solity locks on this page are this style.
  • Rim lock with a vertical body: usually fits. Rim locks sit on the surface of the door instead of inside it. The Gateman GR Sash has a compact vertical body.
  • Deadbolt-style locks: the Aqara U100 and U400 have a compact inside unit that often clears a handlebar.
  • Rim lock with a horizontal body: needs more room beside the handlebar. The Gateman G-Touch has a horizontal back unit, so we check the space from your photos.
  • Mortise lock with a lever handle: usually does not fit, because the lever swings into the handlebar.

How to measure

Measure from the edge of the door on the lock side to the nearest point of the handlebar. The Mercury V6 needs more than 110mm. The Mercury X6 and Mercury X5 need more than 130mm. For every other model, send us a photo with a tape measure in the frame and we will check it. Our guide to measuring your door shows where to place the tape.

Can the handlebar be removed?

Often, yes. Removal is case by case and quoted on site if there is any extra charge. Without the handlebar, you can choose from our full range of digital door locks, including lever handle models.

Thicker condo doors

Condo doors are often thicker than HDB doors. The Mercury V6 suits doors from 40mm to 120mm thick, and the X6 suits 40mm to 60mm.

FAQ for Condo Digital Locks

Q1. Will a digital lock clash with my condo door handlebar?

It depends on the lock style and the space between the door edge and the handlebar. Mortise locks with a fixed, integrated handle and rim locks with a vertical body usually fit. Lever handle mortise locks and horizontal rim locks usually clash. Send us a photo and we will confirm.

Q2. How much space do I need between the door edge and the handlebar?

Measure from the edge of the door on the lock side to the nearest point of the handlebar. The Mercury V6 needs more than 110mm. The Mercury X6 and X5 need more than 130mm. For other models, we check from your photos.

Q3. Can you remove the handlebar on my condo door?

In many cases, yes. Handlebar removal is case by case, and any extra charge is quoted on site before we start.

Q4. My condo door is thicker than usual. Which lock fits?

The Mercury V6 suits doors from 40mm to 120mm thick, so it handles most thick condo doors. The Mercury X6 suits doors from 40mm to 60mm. We confirm your door thickness from photos.

Q5. Do rim locks work on condo doors?

Often, yes. A rim lock sits on the surface of the door, so a vertical body like the Gateman GR Sash usually clears the handlebar. Rim locks with a horizontal back unit, like the Gateman G-Touch, need more room, so we check the space from your photos.
